My mom and I bought a dining room table, media console, end table, bedside table, lamp and dresser from the Salt Lake City, Utah Thomasville Furniture store, in the Bogart and Lumine line. When the furniture was delivered to our home, my mom told the delivery men that she can't see too well. So, she would wait for me to get home from work to inspect the furniture.

Well, guess what? The dining room table had a couple of big chips and lots of little chips all the way around the bottom of the base. Thomasville had filled in the larger chips with putty, and the putty was still wet. It looked like it came from Hooterville!

The dresser had a huge smudge mark on the front of it and the finish is chipping off, the clear glass lamp had a big visible smudge mark inside and a loose shade, the media console has scratches on top, the granite on the bedside table wasn't cut straight, and the wrong hardware was put on the kitchen table. I never heard so many creeks and groans from a piece of furniture. We were furious and called Thomasville first thing the next morning and told them to pick up the furniture.

They refused to pick up anything and came out to look at the furniture. This franchise owner is Mark Ross, and he was so rude we had to tell him to leave our home. It took them almost nine months for to replace the dining room table base and hardware; however, They had tried more than once to fix the dresser and failed.

This owner, together with his equally rude son Chris Ross, has blatantly told us they will not take anything back, because of who we are. He has been caught in several lies. We did do a dispute through Utah Consumer Protection and GE Money Bank. We even filed a corporate complaint.

What a joke! Thomasville Corporate made promises they refused to keep, Utah Consumer Protection all of a sudden changed their tune after talking to the store owner, and we suspect that GE Money Bank never even investigated anything. We still have the furniture, after nine months, that looks like it came from a discount warehouse for a very big price.

We have recently contacted the Utah Attorney's General Office and will hire an attorney, if we need to. This business needs to be stopped, so other people don't have to go through what we are. Buyer BEWARE - This business has no warranty, nothing can ever be returned, has nothing regarding that in writing , and has shown us that once they have your money you are SOL!

Please heed this warning! Thomasville of Salt Lake City is very crafty. They used underhanded methods to stick us with their junk: they refused to pick up our furniture and then told any agency we made a complaint with that we've had the furniture in our possession for a long time. Believe it or not, this is just one of many in their bag of tricks. I can't warn you enough about dishonest business practices we have encountered with Thomasville Furniture owner Mark and Chris Ross and Thomasville Corporate.

UPDATE: Thomasville Corp wrote us a letter that said our case with them has been closed. They had the nerve to tell us not to go in the S.L.C. store again, because of our conduct. Actually, Chris Ross started a big commotion in the store with us. We took the lamp back into the store. This is kind of funny, but he told us he was going to call the cops. I said, "What are you going to tell them, we want to return a defective item"? This owner and his son think that it is perfectly okay for them to go into a person's home, act like totally unprofessional jerks and then blame the customer for their behavior. But even worse, Thomasville Corp. condones this kind of behavior. Both Thomasville of Salt Lake City and Thomasville Corp, have treated us the with upmost disrespect and dishonesty ever. They told us our year warranty on the lamp is up, when it is not. Again, a trick of theirs is to ignore repeated pleas to take back defective items. When several months have passed they tell everyone you complain to that the item or items have been in your possession for a long time. So, why am I not surprized at the letter we received? This is just the behavior I expected from them, to tell you the truth. I wouldn't go in their store again, if lightning struck me dumb and silly. We won't bother them in their store anymore, we will just bother them with an attorney!

In response to Bullwinkle's comment - You must be living in La La land or you work for Thomasville. There are a lot of other complaints against Thomasville on the internet, so that in itself doesn't look too good for them. In fact, another pissed off Thomasville customer has gotten in touch with me recently, and they pulled the exact same stunt on them. Just because a customer doesn't get help or any satisfaction with a problem doesn't mean they are wrong and the business is right. You know - it is quite possible that the business was not being truthful. We all know that it is most likely the finance company, which Thomasville goes through, is going to stand up for their business partner and not the customer. You know the old saying, "you scratch my back, I'll scratch yours". Moreover, Utah laws do not generally protect the consumer. There are a lot of places of business here that get away with murder, especially home builders. And since the laws favor the business owner, the consumer protection agency will most likely bone the consumer too. There is no more to my story, except their might be more to yours Bullwinkle. Where do you work? Sounds like my post really struck a nerve in you. In addition, I ask myself why you are hiding behind such a silly name. If you ever watched The Rocky and Bullwinkle show, you would know that Rocky was the intelligent one. And by the way - it's not liable or anything else, when it's true. I'm not scared. All I know is, if a gang of angry beavers tried to steal my Thomasville furniture for their dam, I would not try to stop them!

Whoa, couldn't disagree more with your review....some telling parts in your epistle..like, GE capitol dismissing your complaint, and Thomasville Corp. also dismissing your complaint, AND the comsumer affairs division of the State of Utah dismissing your complaint. Seems to me there must be more to this story. FYI, Be carefull who you call liars and cheats...Liable laws still apply, even on the internet.

I think Thomasville has "thrown in the towel" on any type of customer service. The corporation issues a "warranty" but then points you to the dealer and disclaims they owe the consumer any rights under the warranty. I say if you encounter this immediately consult an attorney in your area who practices unfair or deceptive trade practice law. The corporation issues a warranty and is bound by its terms regardless of where you purchased the item. PERIOD. SUE THE CORPORATION. HIRE AN ATTORNEY.
