Poor quaility and craftsmanship from Thomasville Furniture cabinets

I remodel bathrooms and kitchens and also build custom cabinets. I recently installed some kitchen cabinets and a 12' long entertainment center all made by Thomasville. I was not impressed at all by the price compared to the quality of cabinets that I installed. The finishes were okay on most of the cabinets and trim but lacked I thought in construction and materials. For instance the plywood veneer that was used to build the cabinet boxes seemed of poor quality. The upper cabinets had 1/8" gaps in the insides near the face plates on both sides. Over all I'd give the quality a C but the customer paid for A grade quality. I would never recommend these cabinets at these prices. Your better off going custom and paid just as much perhaps. For instance a base blind corner cabinet was $525 (bought thru Home Depot). Plywood and maple face frame should cost about $85, 4 Blum hinges $25, 2 doors $55, assembly labor $100, finishing costs $100, shipping and delivery $30. Total comes to around $395. For a $130 less you can have a custom made cabinent built to just about any size.

Bad company that do not back their goods

We bought a leather set from Thomasville and the finish starting coming off the leather, we paid over 3500.00 and this company said they will not stand behind it. DO NOT BUY THOMASVILLE ......BAD COMPANY, I am not going to give up on this company making this good, we want our money back...The store mamager at the Kennesaw Ga storm refuses to stand behide their good because they say they only stand behind leather for one year, we also bought the extended warrenty but they say its a factory defect, if thats the case Thomasville should make it good,,,,,,give us our money back to me this is no different fro someone stealing from someone

Did you purchase the Guardsman insurance for your furniture? Seems like you didn't.

Also, leather is a natural product and does wear and over time any finish is going to wear off.

Nothing last forever. How did you get water on your sofa, anyway? Also, leather has to be taken care of like any other material on a sofa.

What kind of care and maintenance did you put into your investment? Sorry you don't like your sofa leather aging so next time go to Rooms to Go and get a pleather sofa.

Guest

Stacy, you must work for Thomasville you certainly are NOT a consumer that deals with Thomasville directly. Get real Stacy!

I have been dealing with two leather chairs, a love seat and sofa.

The problem is the leather is water soluable (bet you did not know that) there is no protection on the leather so therefore they call this normal wear. I am really pissed off!

If the warranty is one year....and one year has passed, than you are out of warranty! That's why they have warranties!!

If the car you drive was out of warranty would you expect them to fix it??? I don't think so!

read your paperwork and be an educated consumer...not a ***-artist! I'm sure it was user abuse!

Thomasville Furniture is Junk!

Updated by user Apr 18, 2011

The original chair was purchased in 2002 and replaced in 2007 within the 5 year warranty.

Original review Apr 18, 2011
I purchased the Thomasville Desk Chair from the Fredericksburg Collection approximately in 2004 the chairs leather wore off and the swivel mechanism broke in 2007. I contacted Thomasville and they replaced the chair.

It was my understanding that I would have a brand new warranty on a new chair. Wrong! I did not come to realize this until the second chairs springs came out of the bottom of the chair.I contacted the customer service department and got the run around and they are refusing to replace or repair the chair. I contacted 4 different upholstery companies and I was told that the chair is not repairable.

I have written to them 6 times and it takes them weeks to respond. I own very nice furnture in my home and I have never had these kinds of problems with furniture. I was told that Thomasville is no longer made in the U.S.A. It is now made and imported from China.

This explains their quality. Because my older pieces have never given me any problems. I will never buy another piece of Thomasville furniture. Over priced junk!

Don't waste your hard earned money. I am contacting a consumer protection attorney in regards to lemon law and quality.

Thomasville fires everyone in atlanta..poor upper management

Updated by user Apr 15, 2011

Also...beware of their bad customer service name in Atlanta...all stores the Kennesaw, Alpharetta, Atlanta and Buford stores all are under the same DM. She does not support her managers. They do not do refunds. The delivery company they use is the southeast worst...yes...over 60% of all they deliver is damaged. It takes up to 2 months to get resolution if at all. Many times Thomasville has adopted the standard policy if they lay low and don\'t respond, the customer will go away.

Also...beware of all those carvings on their furniture...it is resin...not wood. It can break off easily. Their leather all comes from china...poor quality and all wood is also from china. Not the quality of former days...but still higher price....

I say all of this as even their furniture tech they send out is disgusted with them and their quality and lack of customer support and service.

So shop around....you will find better quality, great customer service and price for less..... else where......good luck.....

Original review Apr 14, 2011
Instead of training their staff in atlanta, they just fire everyone. All stores are a revolving door of managers, designers and poorly made furniture. Every time I go in a store, there is a new manager, new disigners and new office admins. My sibling worked there for just over a year as a manager and was fired because the store could not make the astronomical sales budget every month. It is always the same budget each month. Everyone know that furniture sales have hot months and slow months. Thomasvile must not...they just fire everyone and start all over every time. They should invest in their people a bit more.

I'M DISABLED,I contacted the store to find out pricing on a sofa i wanted,I was told a great price,my neighbor got his van and son's together to help find a van for my wheelchair and a truck for the sofa's ,we drive 2 hours away,we get their no sofa's and i was told the wrong price,it takes store manager 2 weeks to call me back and all she can do for my trouble is say sorry,I contact the so clled cfo,ceo and vice president, nothing,no sorry,no we'll make it up to you some how,all I hear is the price was misunderstood and they can give me a $100 off of 2000,but what really gets me is that I'M trying to get sofa's for a dancing and cooking school i'm opening for the handicapped and disabled and they said they don't do donations, can't do anything further and that's it but these are the same people who get 85% off their own purchase, donated over 10000 worth of furniture to a private club and gave a well known star over 30000 in furniture but ordinary people like myself they could careless about!!!!!,DON'T BUY ANY OF THEIR BRANDS,P.S. they did donate to japan but only because of trying to get good p.r.

Thomasville north olmsted- rotten management, warranty scam

Furniture delivered 12 weeks after promised delivery date, sold leather protection agreement for additional 300$, went to use it after our 5 year old scratched the finish, would not honor agreement to fix it, said scratch did not qualify for repair. Called thomasvile and they could give a ***, they got their extra $. None of the managers were helpful, did not return calls and we are screwed. Never shop Thomas ville north Olmsted Ohio and save yourself anxiety and frustrating experience This is the worst customer service I have ever experienced Debbie the "manager " always seemed to be at another location when we wpwould call

I order a chair from Thomasville and the seat cushion did not fit and the fabric on arms and cushion

I order a chair from Thomasville and the seat cushion did not fit and the fabric on arms and cushion were puckered and not stuffed correctly. Thomasville refused to give me a credit until they had fixed the problem. It took 4.5 months !!!!!!!! to get the chair fixed. I wrote to the Corporate offices twice and no one gave me the courtesy of an answer. For comparison, I also had a problem with a buffet from Ethan Allen and they came out the next weekend and fixed it. I also had a problem with a a couch from Giorgi Brothers and they fixed it in 2 weeks. Thomasville is horrible, with attitude and terrible customer service.

Thomasville Furniture -King of Prussia Mall, PA

The Worst Experience of my life! Ordered family room furniture in May of 2010. Spent $15,000.00 at that store. It is now March 2011 and they are STILL trying to fix the mess ups of my room. Yes, it has been almost 1 whole year!!!!! I recommend NEVER going to Thomasville in the King of Prussia Mall. I was treated so bad that I was in tears more times than I can count. How is it that they stay in business? I have no idea. Save yourself A HUGE headache, and heartache - do not buy from Thomasville. For that kind of money, you can hire a private designer to do your room for you. Trust me - I know. My neighbor did and her room is beautiful and was the happy experience that you should be having when you spend that kind of money to make over a room!

Thomasville cabinets are not quality products

Thomasville cabinets do not offer a quality product. The drawer box of the cabinets is 1 to 4 inches shorter than the actual opening of the drawer. It is a dissappointment not to be able to fill the drawers. Why have a 9 inch drawer that you can only fill up to 5 inches? This does not make sense and it is poor poor quality. The representative said that I am the only consumer to complain about this and I cannot believe that all consumers are satisfied with the size and storage capacity of these drawers. I tried to return the entire order. There is a restocking fee and some of the cabinets they would not take back so I am stuck with a substandard kitchen cabinet. Do not buy this product.

Didn't you go to a Thomasville store and physically pick out your own items? I would imagine that you would have known before you bought them what the interiors were like.

Also, I'm confused about your description.

Thomasville makes home furnishings, but I've never seen Thomasville kitchen cabinets. Where do they sell those?

Thomasville Nooooooo WAY. RUN

Thomasville in Jacksonville florida on Phillips Hwy south of the avenues mall. Howabout Diane the GM now lying to me 3 different times on 3 different dates telling me my $7000 worth furniture is not here but is still in a sea container and will be another 2 months. Is it traveling around the world 3 times? For the secretary to first lie to me about the arrival date then the GM Diane tolie about the delivery 3 weeks in a row per 3 different calls is beyond absurd and way beyond any form of customer service. never ever again.

Why cannot the management of furniture stores just level and be truthful with customers? It is a code that they live by..."don't tell them when their furniture will actually come in." I have experienced this on many occassions...if they don't have it to sell, do not allow for it to be advertised.....it is just a bate and switch becauswe there comes a time when you just need to "get it done" and move on with life.

DOT NOT BUY FROM THOMASVILLE FURNITURE!!!

DO NOT BUY FROM THOMASVILLE!!!! My mother wanted to buy a bedroom set from Thomasville so we went and picked out the Cinnamon Hill set.

We were told it would take two weeks. The cost of the bed, night stand, and two dressers was $5400.00. Two months later the bedroom set arrived. I found out later after badgering the sales manager that they are no longer manufactured in America!

That's why it took so long. We charged it to my wife's card which was because they have air miles. Good thing we did that instead of using my mothers, when the set was delivered three of the four pieces were defective, some had different finish, some were scraped and some showed some patchwork, we were very disgusted that we waited so long for this junk. I called the sales manager and told him that I wanted a refund, he said he could not give me all my money back due to the fact that hidden in a very long contract there was a provision calling for a 45% restocking fee!!!

I explained that it was not due to me changing my mind but that it was due to inferior quality of the furniture. We argued back and forth and later I agreed to give him another shot but said I was not going to wait another 2 months for it to be shipped from china or South America or wherever they do business. He called me back the next day and said he was going to give me someone else's shipment (that is probably what happened to mine) and that he would oversee and assured me that he would make it right and if not he would then refund my money if I was not satisfied. He also said that we could go to the warehouse in Edison, NJ to inspect it before delivery.

We did and guess what, it was even worse than the first set!! It had scratches, different colored finishes, scratches and all these little holes in the wood that they just stained over instead of puttying, sanding and then staining. Not for nothing but I could do a better job of finishing a piece as I have on a few occasions. We decided to dispute the charges to our credit card by calling the credit company as soon as we rejected the first shipment, you must do so within the first 60 days.

We rejected the second set and walked out. I waited another day after that and planned to go back to the store and threaten the manager with a lawsuit if he did not give me a refund. But that evening my wife called me at work and told me that the credit card company credited us with a refund and that they would go after Thomasville!! Thank you so much to the credit card company because I was getting so frigging mad that I was going to get a permit to picket their store!!

Do not let anyone you care about do business with this company, I think they will be out of business in a few years, they are ruining their company trying to cut corners and outsource to unskilled cheap labor. If there is someone that you really hate or have a serious ax to grind with, then by all means recommend Thomasville to them!!!!!

Very disappointing to hear your unfortunate experience with Thomasville. I have purchased 15 years ago Thomasville cabinets and never had a problem. They Thomasville cabinets are comparable to Kraftmaid.

I bought my cinammen hill set from Thomasville in NC. I went to all three of their outlets as they were closing them.

I am more than satisfied. I purchased two night stands, dresser with a mirror, arm wall and a tall chest. Everything was delivered to me in SC with professionalism. Excellent shape athe a fraction of the cost locally.

I new they were closing their plants in NC and having everything shipped from overseas for cheap labor. I must have hit it just right.

Guest

I ordered an expensive Thomasville table through a furniture store that still carries the brand.  Very little showroom inventory, mostly through catalog. Looks like a young child glued it together. Store owner has been to my home twice to try and remove the excess wiggly lines of glue referred to as "build up". Told me other horror stories of store's recent experiences with Thomasville as it is nowadays and how they are phasing it out.

Guest

Love my Thomasvile living room!!! They are the best furniture company out there!

Guest

I'm sure Thomasville delivers to thousands of customers a month. Looks like they are doing a great job based on such few complaints. I have purchased several times and every time-- NO ISSUES.

Guest

Good luck with EA.....I would stick with Thomasville!

Guest

DO NOT GO TO ETHAN ALLEN! Yes, I believe there are issues with all furniture stores whose products are NOT made in America - which are many more high end stores than we care to admit.

Almost everything is manufactured in another country. But at least Thomasville will do something about issues. ETHAN ALLEN DOES NOT CARE! They won't give you your money back, replacement furniture - nothing.

And they're more expensive. Go to consumeraffairs.com and see all the hundreds of complaints - just from 2010 alone! Once you pay them, they never want to hear from you again.

And the son of the CEO was a terrorist (killed). Look it up online before you give them your business.

Guest

Ethan Allen is NO Better! Trust me - read the reviews before you head over there as well.

I am also not a happy customer with Thomasville! It is not just about Sept. I ordered my family room furniture back in May! When it came in over the summer, end of July, I noticed that the huge sectional couch that I custom ordered was falling apart and that within 6 months would look like ***!

On top of it, the designer over sold me on furniture and now have two chairs that do not fit in my room! I have spent a total of $15,000.00 with Thomasville! Yes - that's right - 15 THOUSAND DOLLARS!!! I AM PISSED OFF!

Horrible customer service by the manager of the store. Did not care to deal with me at all! They are replacing the couch, (still not sure what that one is going to look like or hold up like yet) and I am still fighting on returning the two chairs that were $2400.00. I am SO disappointed with this store.

For this kind of money - I could have hired an independent designer!!! So upset with myself!!!!

Guest

The order I had took 4 months. And I said okay fine as long as it gets here.

Then when they get it they deliver at the wrong time and try to blame us for not being there.

That's the last straw I'm gonna try to ask the credit card company as well to get this cancelled this is just pathetic, for a long established store. Going to ethan allen for the rest of my living room.

Guest

I am now going on two months waiting for my bedroom suite as well. I don't think they have any stock waiting and available (too expensive to wherehouse...) And yes I have been badgering and been getting the run around. Next time I will go to Ethan Allen.

Thomasville Terrible Customer Service

Spent a good bit of money on what I hoped would be quality furniture, but after waiting 5 weeks for delivery, the items I received were not only poorly stained but completely missing stain on the legs of 3 different items. Although the poor quality was disappointing, what was really disappointing was the response of Thomasville. When I told them I wanted to return the defective pieces, they insisted that I would have to pay a 10% restocking fee. A restocking fee on defective furniture???? Manager was very rude. This is obviously a company that doesn't care about the customer once they get your money. Very poor customer service.

Tomasville cabinetry

$7,000 is the right price for a small kitchen from Thomasville, I have one of the most expensive cherry arch door designs on my cabinets and although my kitchen is huge, I can see a small one costing that much even with the most expensive wood. Plywood sides are not even much more, about 10% of the price of the cab. I can agree that they are not quality. I was told I had one of the most expensive cabinets they sell and mine came damaged, several of them. There were huge knots in the wood (I know cherry has knots normally)However, years ago the quality was much better and the knots were nowhere near this big nor numerous(this is our 3rd kitchen from KM). Who wants a big hole in their cabinet door? Come on! I had to return a couple doors and order new ones. Also, the spice door cabinet doors were falling off and laying in the box with ripped off screws etc. Terrible. My oven cabinet bottom was smashed in! Don't they check these things before delivering them? The funny thing was, the boxes were fine. It was like they were just slapped together at the factory, damaged, not checked and then put into boxes. They have went downhill in the past few years! Yes, the "carcass" does come apart AFTER they are hanging on the wall. They are so lousily put together.

Thomasville furniture makes me Suicidal

Ordered $5,000 in Franklin, TN, Thomasville leather furniture and the cushions just sink down until the the only thing holding you up in the leather. Thomasville refuses to admitt that the furniture isn't up to standard. I feel like I'm a prisoner in my own home. The only furniture available to sit on is the new Thomasville furniture and the leather just keeps streching, I'm afraid that if I sit on it and strech out the leather more they will say that I damaged it. Their return policy is a 25% re-stocking fee which I've offered to pay the fee but the Franklin, TN store Manger Dave just igones me and my husband. This has been going on since 06/02/2010. I have PKD and this is making me very sick,

Ignored me

In 2001, I purchased dining room, bedroom and living room furniture from Thomasville in Farmingdale,NY. I now leave in Topsham, Maine. I did contact the Thomasville dealer in Portland, Maine, was advised to contact another party. He said he would help with my problems, but never did and never contacted me further. The problems are: On an armoire, on the inside of two doors, the wood is separating. The dining room buffet has several problems. I realize doors swell in humid weather, but to have to leave buffet doors unclosed and sticking out for months on end is ridiculous. A *** on one of the buffet doors is unable to stay on. A representative said he could not fix it. I love the furniture and it is beautiful. However, I am greatly isappointed in the non-service. I would appreciate your help in this matter.
